Rev. Carmen Avery Walker
Pastor Carmen Walker is a native of Birmingham, Alabama who takes seriously the call of God on her life to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that is relevant and applicable to those from every walk of life. “My charge is to produce a more excellent product for God. I was gifted with the use of words to impart The Word to serve, encourage, inspire, motivate, and incite God’s people to follow the example of Christ in their day-to-day living.” To this end, she uses every facet of her gifting--preaching, teaching, writing, organizing and facilitating, to walk out her calling as a Servant Leader.
Pastor Carmen graduated Cum Laude from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Humanities. She earned her Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. An Ordained Deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Pastor Carmen served as Youth Pastor at Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church-Decatur, Georgia before becoming Pastor of Mt. Zion A.M.E.-Opelika, Alabama.
In her former ministry setting, she served as Youth Pastor, Women’s Ministry Leader, coordinated Bible Studies, Seminars and Outreach programs designed to meet the ever-changing needs of youth and women in and outside the congregation. Rev. Walker uses the mediums of email, Facebook, blogging and the newly created AMEtv.org, as tools to share the Word. Rev. Walker provides weekly devotionals geared for believers of all ages. Her passion for words and desire to communicate also lends itself to the writing of Christian short stories, devotionals and plays.
Believing that being trained to serve the needs of a congregation is critical, Rev. Walker has completed a CPE Internship at Gwinnette Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia and is currently in their CPE Residency Program. Her goal is to implement an in depth “Safe Space” Counseling and Care Network to serve the growing needs of the community.
In addition to being the energetic wife of Winston Walker, Owner of wePRAISEwebdesign.com and AMEtv.org, she is the mother of Erica, Erin and Brandon Ellis. Rev. Walker is also proud to add to her resume the title of “MiMi” as she is affectionately called by her darling granddaughter, Chloe Michelle. Pastor Walker and her husband reside in Lithonia, Georgia.
In summary, Rev. Walker makes this comment, “I was called to serve and for me it is more than just preaching the Word. Service is loving and caring for the people of God by journeying with them as they learn to develop a more intimate relationship with Christ. I believe that I am mandated to communicate the love of God with integrity, imagination and passion using every available tool at my disposal. In this way, I can effectively love and serve Gods people and Our Zion in a way that gives God Glory!”
